"When I viewed the before and after gallery on his website, I completely made up my mind that he was the one I wanted to perform breast augmentation on me. The surgeries that he has completed are the very best I've ever seen, in any city or state I've searched- in the entire country. They look the most natural! EXACTLY what I wanted."

"Dr. Yamahata is an amazing surgeon with years of experience and patient results that match. I had a breast augmentation with him about 3 months ago and received beautiful results. He is very thorough with his explanations and responses to questions. Prior to my preop appointment I had a whole list of questions and ended up not having to ask a single one because he answered them all."

Breast Augmentation FAQs

Patients consider breast augmentation surgery for many reasons. Whether you want to increase the size of your breasts to be more proportionate to your body or your breasts have lost fullness after pregnancy or weight loss, breast augmentation can help.

If you're considering breast augmentation surgery, educating yourself about the procedure is essential. These are some of the most frequently asked questions about breast augmentation and implants.

Q: Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Implants?

A: The best candidates for breast augmentation are women in good general health who want to enhance their self-image, improve their appearance, and feel more comfortable in their own skin. The best way to determine whether you are a good candidate for breast implant surgery is to schedule a consultation to discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals.

Q: Are Breast Implants Safe?

A: Breast augmentation with implants has been proven safe and effective in long-term clinical studies. The FDA continues to monitor research on breast implant devices, including studies on their safety and outcomes. No surgical procedure is without risk, however. Although patient satisfaction is high, a small percentage of patients may experience side effects such as infection and capsular contracture. Choosing a board-certified surgeon with significant experience performing breast surgery is essential to getting the best possible results.

Q: What Types of Breast Implants are Available?

A: The most used implants contain either silicone gel or saline.

  • Silicone gel-filled breast implants are durable, flexible, and feel most like natural breasts.

  • Saline-filled breast implants are inserted into the body and then filled with sterile saltwater (saline). Saline implants tend to feel firmer than silicone.

Dr. Yamahata may also use fat transfer as an alternative to implants, although this typically isn't the best choice for most patients. The increase in volume using fat transfer is rarely over one cup size, and most patients find this volume increase inadequate.

Q: What Does Breast Augmentation Cost?

A: Breast augmentation is highly customized to your specific needs. Your breast augmentation cost will depend on the breast implants you choose, where your surgery is performed, and several other factors. At your consultation, we will provide you with a detailed price estimate that you can take home to consider.

Q: Where Will the Incisions be Made?

A: The incisions used during breast augmentation surgery vary depending on your anatomy, the type of implant used, and which approach will give the best result.

In general, there are three incision locations for breast augmentation surgery:

  • A periareolar incision is made around the edge of your areola (the colored area surrounding your nipple).

  • An inframammary incision is placed in the crease below each breast.

  • A transaxillary incision runs along the edge of your armpit.

A: Most people return to work about a week after breast augmentation. You can expect some discomfort and swelling for the first 2 or 3 days after the procedure, which is well-managed with pain medication. In the weeks following surgery, your breasts will continue to heal and settle into their new position. You'll probably need about 4 weeks off from low-impact exercise and another 3 or 4 weeks before resuming strenuous activity like running.

Q: What Should I Expect from Recovery?

Q: How Long DBreast Implants Last?

A: The average lifespan of breast implants varies by patient but is typically between 10 and 20 years.
